Canadian Parliament Gives Standing Ovation to Man Who Served in Waffen SS

Back in 2021, the Canadian academic Eric Kaufmann wrote that his native country was swiftly becoming “the world’s first woke nation”. And over the last two years, it seems the trend has only accelerated.

In a recent article, Jordan Peterson identified Canada as being at “the forefront of the wave of woke lunacy threatening to swamp the entire Western world”. And in a speech earlier this month, retired General Michel Maisonneuve lamented that the “woke movement” is “destroying Canadian values”.

As we all know, the woke are notorious for branding those who disagree with them as ‘bigots’ or even ‘Nazis’. This cartoon offers an amusing illustration.) So you’d assume the last thing they’d want is to be associated in any way with the actual Nazis from World War II.

Apparently not. On September 22nd, Justin Trudeau invited a 98-year-old Ukrainian-Canadian man named Yaroslav Hunka to the parliament in Ottawa. Hunka was introduced as a “veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians”. Greeted with a standing ovation, he was described as a “Ukrainian hero” and a “Canadian hero”.

Left out was the fact that Hunka fought with the Nazis as a volunteer in the Waffen SS ‘Galicia Division’.

There seems to some dispute about whether or to what extent this particular unit was involved in atrocities. Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14th_Waffen_Grenadier_Division_of_the_SS_(1st_Galician)#Atrocities> notes that although it “has not specifically been found guilty of any war crimes by any war tribunal or commission”, the unit faces “numerous accusations”, and goes on to list several atrocities in which it was <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB_Gs-0dhOo> allegedly involved.

What is true is that by the time the ‘Galicia Division’ was formed in 1943, the Nazis and their collaborators had already murdered hundreds of thousands of Hunka’s fellow citizens (mostly Jews and ethnic Poles). So regardless of exactly what his unit did during the war, fighting with the Nazis against the Soviets is hardly something a Western parliament should be honouring as “heroic”.

Indeed, “heroic” would have been to resist both the Nazis and the Soviets, as some Eastern European partisans did.

My point here is not that ‘Ukrainians are Nazis’. My point is that the Canadian parliament are taking us for fools. They honoured a man with ‘associations’ (to put it mildly) that in any other context they would have viciously denounced. Either that or they didn’t do basic due diligence.

Last year, Trudeau himself <https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-conservative-swastikas-1.6354970> accused Conservative MPs sympathetic to the trucker convoy of standing with “people who wave swastikas”. So according to him, someone who fought with the Nazis (against a country with which the British Empire was then allied) is a “Canadian hero”, but truckers who opposed the vaccine mandates – well they’re the real Nazis!

My advice to Hunka, the former SS soldier: if you want to steer clear of controversy, don’t fraternise with Canadian truckers.

BREAKING: House of Commons speaker apologizes for honoring 98-year-old Ukrainian Nazi, claims idea was entirely his

“I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world.”

On Sunday, the Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota apologized for his decision to honor 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka in front of the Canadian Parliament after it was revealed that the Ukrainian fought with the Nazi Waffen-SS during the Second World War.

In a post on X, Rota said, “On September 22, in the House of Commons, I recognized an individual in the gallery. I have subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision to do so.”

“I wish to make clear that no one, including fellow parliamentarians and the Ukraine delegation, was aware of my intention or of my remarks before I delivered them,” he added. “This initiative was entirely my own, the individual in question being from my riding and having been brought to my attention.”

“I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world. I accept full responsibility for my actions,” Rota concluded.

Some have questioned whether Rota was truly the only person behind the matter; Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre laid the blame on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

On Friday, the Canadian Parliament along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky gave Hunka a standing ovation during the joint session of Parliament in Ottowa. Hunka was a guest of Zelensky, who was lobbying the Canadian government for more military aid to assist in their war against Russia.

It was revealed that Hunka was a soldier with the 14th “Galicia” division of the Waffen-SS, the military section of the Nazi SS. The group was responsible for elements of terror from massive extermination camps to the daily torture and repression of citizens within occupied Europe and was later declared a criminal organization during the Nuremberg trials.

Hunka immigrated to Canada after World War II where he fought with the First Ukrainian division. The Galicia division was later renamed in 1945 with a Ukrainian name to avoid connecting it to the Waffen-SS.

In his speech on Friday, Speaker Rota proudly proclaimed that Huka was a “veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today even at his age of 98.” However, during the Second World War, Canada was allies of Russia and would have been considered an enemy of Hunka.

The Canadian government committed to spending $650 million in a “multi-year commitment that provides predictable, steady support to Ukraine” for their war effort.

Zelenskyy, Trudeau Honor Actual 3rd Reich Nazi With Standing Ovation

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy – who commands a battalion of neo-Nazis – honored an actual WWII Nazi with a standing ovation on Friday.

Yaroslav Hunka, 98, fought in a Third Reich military formation accused of war crimes.

On Friday, he was honored during a session of Canadian parliament in which Zelenskyy addressed the lawmakers to thank them for their support since Russia invaded Ukraine, saying that Canada has always been on “the bright side of history.”

Hunka stood for standing ovation and saluted, according to Canadian television.

He was hailed as a hero for fighting against the Russians.

According to the Associated Press, Hunka “fought with the First Ukrainian Division in World War II before later immigrating to Canada,” another name for the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, the Nazi party’s military wing, also known as the SS Galichina.

Formed in 1943, SS Galichina was comprised of Ukrainians from the Galicia region in the western part of the country. It was armed and trained by Hitler’s Nazis and commanded by German officers. The next year, the division received a visit from SS head Heinrich Himmler, who had high praise for the unit’s effectiveness at slaughtering Poles.

The SS Galichina subunits were responsible for the Huta Pieniacka massacre, in which they burned 500 to 1,000 Polish villagers alive.

In fact, during the Nuremberg Trials, the Waffen-SS was declared to be a criminal organization responsible for mass atrocities.

Following the war, thousands of SS Galichina veterans were allowed to leave Germany and resettle in the West – with around 2,000 moving to Canada. By that time, they were known as the First Ukrainian Division.

A blog by an association of its veterans, called “Combatant News” in Ukrainian, includes an autobiographical <https://komb-a-ingwar.blogspot.com/2011/03/blog-post_21.html> entry by a Yaroslav Hunka that says he volunteered to join the division in 1943 and several <https://komb-a-ingwar.blogspot.com/2010/10/blog-post_31.html> photographs of him during the war. The <https://komb-a-ingwar.blogspot.com/2010/10/blog-post_4610.html> captions say the pictures show Hunka during SS artillery training in Munich in December 1943 and in Neuhammer (now S´wie?toszów), Poland, the site of Himmler’s visit.

In posts to the blog dated 2011 and 2010, Hunka describes 1941 to 1943 as the happiest years of his life and compares the veterans of his unit, who were scattered across the world, to Jews. -<https://forward.com/fast-forward/561927/zelenskyy-joins-canadian-parliaments-ovation-to-98-year-old-veteran-who-fought-with-nazis/> Forward

So, the same leftists who called Trump supporters Nazis for years are now honoring an actual Nazi – while Germany has notably locked up several concentration camp guards in their 90s for their involvement in Nazi activities.

University of Ottawa Political Scientist Ivan Katchanovski lays it out…

Odd, they don’t look like Trump supporters.

Maybe these Nazis can shed some light? Careful, “X” thinks this is sensitive material (that might redpill people?).

As <https://twitter.com/RealAlexRubi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw> @RealAlexRubi reported, “Boneface” McLellan has boasted of taking photographs of Ukrainian fighters “posing with the corpses of a lynched pregnant woman and a man they said was her husband.”

Canada’s Speaker Resigns After Honoring Nazi Now-Wanted For Extradition By Polish Minister

BY TYLER DURDEN

Update (1420ET): The Speaker of Canada’s House of Commons, Anthony Rota, has resigned after leading Parliament in praising a Ukrainian man who moved to Canada after fighting for a Nazi unit.

“I must step down as your Speaker,” Rota said, adding “I reiterate my profound regret.”

Still no opinion on the matter from the ADL… Weird!

Developing…

A high ranking Polish government official is pressing for Warsaw to begin an extradition request for Yaroslav Hunka, the 98-year-old Ukrainian Canadian who served the Nazi SS Galizien formation in WWII. Hunka was hailed as a “Ukrainian hero” and a “Canadian hero” by Justin Trudea’s government days ago, receiving a standing ovation in the House of Commons also as Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky looked on and cheered.

Polish Education Minister Przemys?aw Czarnek announced on Tuesday he has “taken steps” to initiate the extradition of Hunka to Poland for possible war crimes.

“In view of the scandalous events in the Canadian Parliament, which involved honoring, in the presence of President Zelenskyy, a member of the criminal Nazi SS Galizien formation, I have taken steps towards the possible extradition of this man to Poland,” Czarnek said in a Tuesday social media post.

Canadian public broadcaster CBC has confirmed the Polish minister’s announcement, saying it adds pressure to growing calls for Speaker Anthony Rota to step down, after he took responsibility for inviting and failing to properly vet the <https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/yaroslav-hunka-poland-minister-extradite-1.6978266>Nazi war veteran:

Opposition parties said it’s not enough for Rota to apologize for inviting Hunka to the day’s festivities. NDP MP Peter Julian, the party’s House leader, said “regretfully and sadly” Rota cannot continue in his role after this incident.

“The Speaker has to be above reproach,” Julian said. “This is an unforgivable error that puts the entire House in disrepute. Unfortunately, I believe a sacred trust has been broken.”…

In 2017, Polish IPN prosecutors requested the extradition from the United States of another member of the Ukrainian SS division, Michael Karkoc, who had settled in Minnesota after the war. However, he passed away in 2019 aged 100 before the process could be completed.

Needless to say this adds yet more levels of embarrassment for Trudeau and Canadian officials. Not only has the story gone viral and gained international attention and condemnation from leading Jewish groups – but notably the ADL has remained completely silent.

How — after a lifetime of appearing in black face — does Justin Trudeau get caught applauding an SS soldier who fought with the Nazis, and then instantly starts babbling about “Russian disinformation”?

Do you see how Western elites use RUSSIA to blame for all their failings? <https://t.co/yAIYr93ody>https://t.co/yAIYr93ody

— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) September 25, 2023

Trudea has meanwhile tried to refocus this as a warning against “Russian disinformation” in a transparent attempt to deflect controversy which <https://www.wionews.com/world/trudeau-warns-of-russian-disinformation-against-ukraine-to-deflect-controversy-over-invite-to-nazi-veteran-639593> even mainstream media has seen through. At the same time, some Left politicians in Canadian parliament are seeking to get the whole incident expunged from official records, as <https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/leftists-canadian-parlaiment-seek-erase-embarassing-nazi-inicident-record>we detailed earlier.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald questioned, “How — after a lifetime of appearing in black face — does Justin Trudeau get caught applauding an SS soldier who fought with the Nazis, and then instantly starts babbling about “Russian disinformation”?”
